World’s tallest man gets married
The world’s tallest man has married a woman who is 25 years younger than he is - and two-thirds of his height. After a global search for a suitable bride, herdsman Bao Xishun ended up marrying a saleswoman from his home city of Chifeng in northern China.
Mr Bao, who stands at 2.36m (7ft 8.95in) tall, tied the knot with Xia Shujian, 29, several days ago.
The 54-year-old gained fame last year when he saved two dolphins by pulling dangerous plastic from their stomachs.
He used his long arms to remove shards that the animals had swallowed at an aquarium in Fushun, north-east China.
News of Mr Bao’s wedding has delighted commentators in China.
The Beijing News reported: “After sending out marriage advertisements across the world and going through a long selection process, the efforts have finally paid off.”
Mr Bao was confirmed as the world’s tallest living man by Guinness World Records last year.
He overtook the previous holder, Radhouane Charbib of Tunisia, by just 2mm.
Guinness World Records say Mr Bao was of normal height until 16 but then put on a spurt that doctors were unable to explain, reaching his full height in seven years.

Britains Tallest couple
Not much Fits says congratulations to Britain’s tallest couple!
Recently reported in The Sun Newspaper:
LOVED-UP Hilary Roberts and Ross Sambridge are high on romance – as Britain’s tallest couple. The lovestruck pair tot up a combined total of 13ft 7ins, with Hilary standing at 6ft 3ins and Ross 7ft 4ins.
Hilary, 27, a scientific researcher from Bristol, met Londoner Ross four years ago at a meeting of the Tall Persons Club of Britain.
She said: “People can’t believe it when they see us together, but I’m so excited to be with Ross. He’s absolutely perfect.â€
Film-maker Ross, 27, is just two inches shorter than Britain’s tallest man, 7ft 6ins Chris Greener.
Also reported in The Daily Mail:
Hilary Roberts had been looking down on her dates for years.
But at first glance she knew Ross Sambridge was the man to meet her high expectations.
At 7ft 4in, he was hard to miss. And Dr Roberts, 27, had a pretty good view from her 6ft 3in vantage point.
“Ross is perfect,” said the scientific researcher.
“I’d always been looking for a tall handsome man to be my boyfriend. And Ross is certainly the tallest and most handsome man I’ve met.”
The couple, who have a combined height of 13ft 7in, were introduced at a meeting of the Tall Person’s Club of Great Britain.
Hilary was attending the club for the first time after struggling to meet men who were not intimidated by her height.
She said: “The first thing I noticed was that I wasn’t the tallest woman in the room.
“I quickly started chatting to people easily because I didn’t have to worry about stooping down to hear them.
“Then I looked over to where a very tall man was. I couldn’t believe it. He looked like a giant.
“We hit it off immediately. I’d always found it quite strange talking to new people, but Ross and I just clicked.”
Dr Roberts, and Mr Sambridge, a film maker from East Ham, East London, swopped phone numbers at the next meeting, and soon began dating.
Four years later, they are looking to set up home together in London. The club believes they are the country’s tallest couple.
Dr Roberts, of Bristol, added: “Ross has really made me feel more confident. I love walking hand in hand down the street with him. And I can certainly look up to him.”
Mr Sambridge thinks he is still growing. One day he may become Britain’s tallest man – a record held by 7ft 6in Chris Greener.

From BBC news
The world’s tallest man has saved two dolphins by using his long arms to reach into their stomachs and pull out dangerous plastic shards.
Mongolian herdsman Bao Xishun was called in after the dolphins swallowed plastic used around their pool at an aquarium in Fushun, north-east China.
Attempts to use instruments failed as the dolphins contracted their stomachs.
Guinness World Records list Mr Bao, 54, as the world’s tallest living man at 2m 36.1cm (7ft 8.95in).
Recovering
Veterinarians turned to Mr Bao after attempts to extract the plastic shards at the aquarium in Fushun, Liaoning Province, had failed.

The mammals had lost their appetite and were suffering depression, aquarium officials said.
The heads of the dolphins were held back and towels wrapped around their teeth so Mr Bao could not be bitten.
He then extended his arm length of 1.06m into the mammals’ stomachs.
Chen Lujun, manager of Royal Jidi Ocean World, said Mr Bao was successful and the dolphins were “in very good condition now”.
Local doctor Zhu Xiaoling told the state media agency Xinhua: “Some very small plastic pieces are still left in the dolphins’ stomachs.
“However the dolphins will be able to digest these and are expected to recover soon.”

From the London Metro
He makes Peter Crouch look like a midget and is nicknamed Stretch - but Christopher Lister is still growing.
The towering 18-year-old measures an astonishing 7ft 3in (2.21m) and is thought to be Britain’s tallest teenager.
The beanpole student, from Leeds, cannot even fit through his front door without bending down. His loftiness has cost his parents about £22,000 after they were forced to refurbish the family home to accommodate his enormous frame.

The work included fitting a walk-in shower, extending doors to the ceiling and buying an extra-long bed for him. Christopher, who is only 3in (8cm) shorter than the country’s tallest man, said: ‘I get swamped by people when I go out asking me about my height.’
He wears size 18 shoes, was 4ft (1.21m) tall when he first started school aged four and was as tall as 6ft 7in (2m) Liverpool goal-getter Crouch two years ago.
He also has a nightmare trying to fit into clothes and cars.
The teenager added: ‘When I fill in forms and they ask for any details of disabilities I just write down “Extra tall”.’

Previously I had mentioned the tallest living man was Radhouane Charbib (Tunisian) who is 7ft 8.9 inches tall.
However the Guinness Book of records now says the Tallest man - living is Xi Shun (China, b. 1951), measured 7 ft 8.95 in (2 m 36.1 cm) as a result of six measurements taken on January 15, 2005, at Chifeng City Hospital, Inner Mongolia, China.
Beating the previous holder Radhouane Charbib (Tunisia) by just 2 mm (0.07 in), Xi Shun claims that his height was normal for his age until he was 16. As a comparison, his father stood at 5 ft 10.8 in (1.8 m) and his mother was 5 ft 2.8 in (1.6 m) tall.
In his late teens, he experienced a growth spurt that, while not normal, was seemingly without any cause. Doctors who examined him in 2005 discovered no evidence of gigantism or acromegaly, and could not explain why he grew so tall so fast (it took him just seven years to reach his record height).
Following a career in the Army – he was recruited for his basketball skills! – he returned to Inner Mongolia and works as a herdsman. He also hires himself out for publicity stunts for a local restaurant and tailor.
He currently resides with his father and brother at Chifeng.

From the Shropshire Star 18th June 2005, have a look at it here
Deputy Prime Minister John Prescott is facing a tall order from a Shropshire MP who thinks he is head and shoulders above the rest of the people’s representatives.
Daniel Kawczynski - the tallest member of Parliament in history at a lofty 6ft 8.5ins - is spearheading a campaign to increase the national standard height of doors.
As current legislation stipulates the size of doors must be 6ft 8ins, he is sick and tired of craning his neck to get through entrances.
So he has written a letter to Mr Prescott at the Office of the Deputy Prime Minister, asking him whether he will consider lobbying the construction industry to review the current regulation.
Mr Kawczynski wants the standard height of doors increased a few inches to seven feet.
He said it was a growing problem for tall residents because people’s heights increase every generation.
“I am not doing this for myself - there are a lot of tall people in the UK,” he said.
Mr Kawczynski was elected to the Shrewsbury and Atcham seat in the May 5 General Election. Last month he put in an application to the Guinness record keepers in a bid to be named tallest man to enter the House of Commons.

Sadly Andy Roddick just beat Croatian Ivo Karlovic in the Stella Artois title with a tight 7-6 7-6 victory. Roddick said: “Ivo’s serve is probably the biggest weapon in tennis… that was not fun at times.”
Karlovic, at 6ft 10ins is the tallest man in professional tennis. Fingers crossed him for him during Wimbledon.
